Hello!

Does anyone know of a great upgrade if I'm going to upgrade my Gigabyte GTX 580 graphics card? It's been acting very unstable lately with tons of crashes due to too low voltage (which I fixed by using MSI Afterburner), but now it cannot handle the increased heat output from the higher voltage, unfortunately.

So I'd like to make an upgrade, but wanted to ask if anyone could shed some light on which way to go?

I know there's been tons of hardware releases the past 2-4 years, so I'm very much behind on what cards are really good right now.

I'm aiming for a best value-for-money card at approximately ~$4-500.

Also, the size specs of the old Gigabyte card I have right now are important since the case can just barely fit my current card into the machinery.

So, any suggestions or ideas for a great alternative?

My current card specs: http://

Thank you!

Thank you, lawl.

Boys, calm down. I'm not aiming for SLI and never will. I'm just looking for a single, solid card with my current specs.

The choice right now is fairly obvious;

1) Invest in either 770 or 780; or
2) Wait (around 1 month or so) for ATI's new releases and reap the price cut advantage as a consumer, and THEN purchase either of the two previously mentioned cards.

PS: I've always been tempted to go with the GTX 780, but that card sits at around $800-1000 at retailers right now. And I'm not gonna toss out such an amount for a graphics card upgrade.

Thanks!

the 580 overclocks much much better than the 680/770, people dont realize that the 580 in reality in the top 10 heavy hitting games is only 30% slower than a 680 at 1080p, about 25% at 1440p, maybe due to the 580 having actually faster memory, go figure. i feel that spending $450 and getting back maybe $150 for a used 580 is not worth the hassel. the gtx780 is about as fast as two 580's in sli but has a much higher vram cap. i think you should just squeeze out as much as you can out of your 580 until amd releases their cards. by the time battlefield 4 comes out there will be a deal either on the 780 or a +/- equal card from amd that comes bundled with the game for free anyway so you save money then too on top of the prices dropping. right now is just flat out a horrible time to buy a video card unless its an amd 7xxx card which are extremely price competitive. Denmark girls are hot and pricing there for video cards suck, sorry dude. if you haven't already, overclock the piss out of that 2600k and the 580, trust me, they can take it no problem as long as cpu/gpu stay under 80c

I feel you, Nikoli. But what you've failed to understand yet (or I have failed to explain - no pun intended, mate) is that I am looking for an immediate substitute because of the fact that my shitty Gigabyte card is failing already (my system is just above 2½ years old), that's why I initially started this thread.

I am experiencing brutal BSOD's, Flash Figures, abnormalities, etc. You name it. As I said in my original post, I've had issues with the default GTX 580 voltage being set at a far too low level at the factory (word is that nVidia received a ton of heat for their 580 GPU's producing waaay too much heat, so they delibirately underclocked most of their next releases, which included my card, Gigabyte GTX 50...).

This means that I have to manually control the voltage of the card from the default of 1014 mV, I think it is, to 1100 mV... in order to get a STABLE CARD.

JUST to get stability. Nothing below, nothing above. Only stability.

It's like going to your local car dealer, and he's offering you a really cheap car... except it's only cheap if you choose to invest another 10K dollars in it for repairs....

Go figure.

And I am looking for a way to solve the problem... that's my goal.

Wait for amd to release their 9000 series, it will release in next 2 months.

@ufoldager: Looks like I missed that point, and was aiming you towards the strongest card within budget.
As a direct, stable replacement the GTX660Ti is in the same performance bracket as the GTX580, it will be shorter than the GTX580, will use a good deal less power and you should have no problems finding one with a quiet cooler.
Depending on prices you might want to consider the next step up-the GTX760, it's a little more expensive but then again, it's a little faster too.

I have decided for one of these 2 options:

1) eVGA GeForce GTX 770 w/ ACX Cooler (2 GB) at the price of $445
2) eVGA GeForce GTX 770 Classified w/ ACX Cooler (4 GB) at the price of $623

Which one would be the best purchase? $623 seems a bit steep tbh.

If you're ready to spend 623 dollars on a video card then you should get a 290x or a 780x instead of a 770
And 4GB is only effective with EXTREMELY high resolutions
2GB is what you need with 1920x1080 screen or less
2800+ screens require 3-4GB
4GB on a mid resolution screen will decrease your fps in games
