Im planning on building a HTPC/home server and am confused as to which western digital drive to use,

the reds because of optimization for NAS,

or the greens because of mass storage ability,

or the blues because of all round performence.

I dont know why but im leaning towards the blue drives for some reason.

The system will also be used to run some webcams which will run with some software which will make them act essentialy as cctv cameras. Its footage will be archived then to the drives. It will save images every few seconds and the video file once every day at a specified time.

Because of the cctv system I plan to run I don't know if green drives would be the right choice because its always going to archiving images to the drive.

I really need some help, thanks in advance.

Hey there, MARSemtee!

I'd agree with darkbreeze on this.
You should narrow your choice down to the WD Reds and enterprise storage solutions.
Your server will be running 24/7 from what I understand, which means that a regular desktop drive like the WD Blue and WD Green might not be able to handle the pressure.
The WD Red drives are specifically designed for RAID/NAS solutions, so if you plan to build an array for your HTPC/server, then this would be the right storage solution for the job: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=mSS3OK

However, I think you should also take a look at our Datancenter hard drives. They are designed for high-density performance in workstations. These drives are supposed to take easily the workload of...
Actually, the blue drives are the cheaper cost effective versions, the green drives are the lower power consumption models and the red drives are the more reliable less error prone models. For a server of any kind, I'd go with either black or red series drives. The black series drives are really the overall and all around middle of the road choice.
