I need to use my distant (100 ft) neighbor's wifi. I have a USB adaptor that can get the signal, now I need a good wifi repeater or extender that allows a USB wifi adaptor to be plugged in to extract the signal from 100ft away.

I currently use a Alfa, but need a stronger one. Please advice.

Personally I'm not too happy to help with this, on account of I've no way of knowing if your neighbour has consented to you sharing his WiFi network. Don't know how other members see it, but I'm leaving this one well alone.
You have implied me obtaining WIFI unauthorized. My neighbor gave me free access, end of argument! I guess I can write a good legal analyze before I can even post a question on this forum. Thank you moderator and Tom's Hardware.

There really is no better adapters they are regulated by the government so the signal levels will be similar.

Still you might as well use a device designed to do what you are attempting. You need to look at outdoor bridge units from for example ubiquiti or engenous. You would then hook them to a AP or router inside the house.

Your neighbor is a fool to allow anyone to share his connection. I am not sure I would let even a relative share my connection. If bad things are done they come back the person paying the bill. If you are lucky all that happens is they cancel your internet connection.

You did provide some technical guidance, so that's helpful. I appreciate. Regarding my neighbor being a fool, that is a value judgment. That's YOU who will not let your relative to share your connection, In my case it is my neighbor sharing one connection, what really is the big deal for everyone at Tom's here??? Can people be less judgmental?

As for me, I am willing AND happy to share my internet access with my neighbor who have been kind and honest with me for years, unless my relatives are so bad, I will absolutely have not hesitation in sharing it with my relative. Have you also considered that Maybe people don't really care about flipping the bills and they care more about being GENEROUS TO HELP GOOD PEOPLE AROUND THEM ?

wow almost 6 years, most times updates like this are someone hijacking the thread.

Like most these I will answer the question and then still recommend you don't do it. If you choose to after being told the risk it is on you.

I have not been able to find the new clipping from a couple of years ago where someone setup a public hotspot for other people in his apartment building and some pedophile used it. He ended up with lots of legal bills trying to prove it wasn't him. Just not worth the risk in my opinion, the more people that know the password the more likely it is to get somehow leaked out to someone else.
