Hi guys. I was just wondering for purchasing a new GPU. So which will be better for gaming? AMD Radeon HD 7970 or Gigabyte GeForce gtx 1050ti? By the way don't worry about my psu. I am just going to play games, nothing else. ONLY EXPERTS SHOULD REPLY. noobs stay away. Thanks in advance.

As to which GPU would perform at a higher fps, will entirely depend on the games you play (and settings), for example, consider these tests in some example games:

F1 2016 in 1080p (Ultra Quality) SMAA, Heavy Rain
HD 7970 = 45fps (avg) / 31fps (min) | GTX 1050 Ti = 48fps (avg) / 38fps (min)
GTX 1050 Ti by only 3fps

In terms of pure performance the 7970 would be a better option by about 20% across the board. The 1050Ti will run cooler and draw less power, but if you're not worried about that then get a 7970. The 1050ti will run newer games better due to games being optimized for newer technology.

There are much better options for the price of a 7970, including a 1060 or a R9 390. If you wait for prices to go down, it will be much more worth the money.
 
The performance of these GPUs will be about the same. The difference will be power and efficiency. The 1050ti uses 75 watts ant the 7970 is 200 watts. Also the 1050ti has 1gb more of vram and it is also 5 years older.

I would go with the 1050 ti, especially if the choice is between a used 7970 vs a new 1050 ti at the same price.

My recommendation is to get the GTX 1050 Ti (as you get equal performance, more VRAM, less power consumption, less heat, less fan noise, and newer architecture).
