Which Windows OS is the best for gaming (AMD CPU)

Hello, I have an Athlon XP 1800 with 256 Ram, after reading the following two articles. I was confused. The articles was on http://www4.tomshardware.com/consumer/20020930/index.html and http://www.tech-report.com/reviews/2001q4/os/index.x?pg=1.

Now, after reading the articles that posted on this web site, I was convinced that there wasn't big difference in gaming for both WinMe, Win2k, WinXP. (Intel processor)

However, all of us here know that Athlon offer better performance at a competitive price. Therefore, buying Athlon CPU for gaming is no surprise.

My question is if there is any patch that can fix this problem as I can't upgrade my memory because I run out of money.

umm...how about you just use xp? I like it 98se, and 2k about the same, and xp sounds like the best for your concerns.

So, you're saying you can't afford to buy XP?

If you're not happy with Win98, there's not a whole lot you can do. If it's not working on your machine, you might just need to load the drivers in the right order.

If you know anyone that is in college, you can sometimes get a discount if you buy your software through the university.

Can't afford xp, and 9x sucks? just get win2k, it runs games fine (this has been proved by tom himself). It's cheap, or free depending where you shop.

If you play a lot of older games. I would stay with Win98se. If you can afford it, I would recommend upgrading to Win2000 or WinXP. Like others have suggested you may be able to get discounts if you are a student or know someone who is a student that can get you a student discount. If you know the Dept. Head for the Computer Science/Math division or if you have a friend you can also get free software through them. That is how I managed to get both Win2k and XP Professional. As for a fix for Win98se there isn't one that I know of. The only option you might have it to use the TweakUI tool, which you can download from the Internet, to edit your windows settings. This may or may not work. It depends on if you know what you are doing. Besides that, NO, there really isn't anything you can do to improve Win98se's performance.
