Question White light on ASUS motherboard, no video output ?

Hi everyone.

I set my computer up today after almost a year, only to find I'm not getting any video signal. I'm getting a white LED on the motherboard and, as a result, nothing on my screen.

This happens every time I boot or reboot normally, but when I hard reset it goes to some sort of safe mode, then to bios, and then it restarts fine. It runs for anywhere from 5 seconds to 15 minutes, and then the screen goes black (again).

I've had this setup for roughly 5 years and this has happened on occasion before, maybe once a week. But never like this, and it's always magically fixed itself after a reboot.

PC Specs
Mobo: ASUS x470f gaming
CPU: Ryzen 9 3900X
GPU: MSI GTX 1080
RAM: 2 x 8GB HyperX Fury DDR4
PSU: Corsair CX750
Current bios version: 5809

Any help is much appreciated. Thank you

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Mobo: ASUS x470f gaming
Is this;
the motherboard you're working with?

If so,
https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/...G_UM_V2_WEB.pdf?model=ROG STRIX X470-F GAMING
page: 1-8, section: 1.1.6, white LED = VGA issue

What BIOS version are you currently on?

PSU: Corsair RM650X
How old is the PSU? 5 years?

As mentioned above, a white led on a asus board generally means there is some issue with the video card. Check the link above to be 100% sure before you proceed.

Issues like this are why I always spend a bit extra to get a cpu that has a gpu even if never plan to use it. On those you would pull the video card and it will use the one on the CPU.

Do you have a old video card laying around. Pretty much anything should be enough to troubleshoot the problem.

I had a issue like this that was a bios issue but that was a new build not something that has been running. Check the power cable are connected correctly but that is also not a common thing to happen on a machine that was running.

There is a tiny chance it is a failed motherboard but it is much more likely the video card failed in some way.

Thank you for the warm welcome!

Yes that's the correct motherboard, I'm on bios version 5809. Do you think it's a good idea to try and update it?

Also, I mistyped. I have the Corsair CX750 and not the RM650X. And it's roughly 5 years old as well.
