you mean those slots for the EL-CHEAPO modems?
isnt it the same thing as the amr?
i may be mistaken, but i think that they put those on there so that they can keep the system cost down for system manufacturers, because they can use the el-cheapo modems and audio cards (which use the cpu to do their tasks, making them useless to a power user, or online gamer, or anyone in general).
they usually put that slot above the agp slot, and i know that they could jsut move the agp slot up, and throw that extra pci slot in there, but they figure that because of the immense costs that making a totally different board would entail, they decide to make one board that is attractive to both end users, and system builders.
and anyways, 5 or 6 pci slots is for the most part enough.
but you might be using like tons of pci cards, and need more than 5.
but then again, you might just be wondering why they even bother to put them there, and you have already read my thoughts about that. so....there you have it....that is my thoughts on why there is an amr/cnr slot on most new motherboards.
