Why AM3+ builds vs FM2+?

I've been planning a build around the FM2+ socket, however while looking at other build, I see a lot of builds based around the AM3+ socket. Could someone please give me a comparison?
For what it's worth my build is going to be mostly used for internet surfing, email, Microsoft Office stuff and very light gaming no serious gaming.

The AM3+ socket handles faster processors than the FM2/FM2+ socket. But for your uses, go for which ever you get the best price on.
The APUs that fit the FM2+ socket have an on-die GPU. You wouldn't have to buy a discrete gfx card with one of them. The AM3+ processors don't have that feature.
the FM2+ socket supports amds APU units, or their cpu with on board graphics. The AM3+ is for their CPU only cpus. The majority of builds on here have discrete graphics cards so having an APU is a waste of money as for the price the alternative AM3+ cpu would be faster. APU are favored for cheaper, non graphic intensive computers or really low budget gaming using an athlon cpu.

Well I would add more newer information as there are same gaming mobo's available from ASUS (A88X GAMER and A88X CROSSBLADE) there is some benefit of having FM2+ APU called Dual graphics technology which allows you to crossfire GPU with integrated graphics of CPU you use, other than that I'd recommend either waiting and saving money for next gen AMD CPU's and motherboards or getting Intel system

From what I've read the on-board GPUs have faster texture load times and can be used in cross GPU setups, if you get the corresponding discrete gfx card(s). If I'm correct combining an APU with one or more GPUs offers faster gaming, but as indicated CPU speed suffers.

Yet, the question is still relevant. Though the answer has changed.

If TH deleted posts when they reached 6 months, that would be ideal... No point in keeping antiquated questions and answers around.
