[SOLVED] Why are DisplayPort wall plates so uncommon?

Hi all,

Looking at tidying up cables, by running through the wall - ideally I want to avoid the 'brush' type wall plate passthroughs.
Only looking at a few feet, but just think it would look cleaner.

Anyway, I can find HDMI wallplates:

I can find VGA, USB etc..... but very, very few options for DisplayPort. The handful that do exist all appear to be out of the UK, or from a 'custom' shop.

Is there any inherent reason DP options don't exist?
I'm assuming there must be some substantial signal impact for these not to exist, or it might just be the fact HDMI is more common.

The handful that I've found are either (relatively) expensive, are just an insert vs a wallplate, or only available in stainless steel...

I think they are less common because DP is primarily used in computers and not so much in consumer electronics like TVs which is dominated by the inferior HDMI so the demand for them is less common hence the price and availability.

You could try something like this https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Pass-Through-Wall-Port/dp/B07MVND474 instead of the brush plates, wont stand out so much and would be easy to patch if you want to remove it.

Everything uses HDMI.
Roku, cable box, AV receiver, FireTV, etc, etc.

Only computers use DP.

Ok, "more common" might've been an over simplification.

You could try something like this https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Pass-Through-Wall-Port/dp/B07MVND474 instead of the brush plates, wont stand out so much and would be easy to patch if you want to remove it.

Yeah, that's not a bad alternative and looks a heck of a lot better than the brush plates.

Cable length.
DP can do 2 meters. HDMI, 30 meters

Don't need the repeater, as distance through the wall is fairly minimal (maybe 6ft).
Don't all DP repeaters require external power anyway?

I actually did the brush type pass through recently, it actually doesn't look that bad. Depends how you implement it. And is anyone really going to see it?
I do understand the OCD, I can't see it from where I'm sitting, but I know its there.

I could not really think or a need for a DP wallplate for almost any use I can think of that would cause someone to make it as a product. Going to a projector you would use HDMI, going to a TV you would use HDMI, for remote use you would use a long distance KVM which would use Ethernet or Optical cable runs. Even at my work which does use DP displays run up to a wall mount in some cases, we just use a cable against the wall or a micro PC mounted on the display back with a short cable. The cost to benefit of running the DP wires behind a wall vs just along the wall is not worth it for a company.

Seems it would be a very small market which is why it's not out there.
