Also, because of the new video card generation production on the older generation ended some time ago. So you have a combination out of covid, low GPU stock, new generation just launched but no supply available.

Im looking to get a 2080 ti but they are still so expensive even tho the 3080 is out for half the price

The 3080 is also faster. The 2080ti will remain overpriced, sadly. Nvidia is not known to lower the price of their old products.

Because there was a minimum amount of cost to produce and get the product to retail that's higher than the 3080. Hardware have a logical cost/performance scale only for its current generation.

It's similar to why a 500GB hard drive doesn't cost half as much as a 1TB hard drive. You still have to pay for all that material used to make the thing.
