Why are local computer stores full of idiot employees!?!?!?

giving is its own reward;otherwise my dad would owe me several hundred in tech sessions.maybe as much as a thousand.
Ohhhh...You don't wanna go there dewd. I'm sure your dad has bailed you out of many "possibly bad" situations. probably without charge. I know i could never repay my parents for everything they've done, and do for me. ... 😀

I second that 😉

Which part of "large chain retailer" was unclear?

Have you never wondered why so many of the staff you deal with are so insistant on ringing up any sales they may have made to you directly on a sales terminal in the "computer department"? Where they have to log-in onto the system with an ID number, instead of just sending you along to the main bank of cash registers?
I wasn't talking about no "computer department" in no "large chain retailer" with no "main bank of cash registers". It is just a PC shop (one big computer department) where I was looking for an AM2 mobo.

There has been said they only know what they are selling(stuff on the shelves) but no details about it. I wanted ANY AM2 board, that's all. How could they not know if they stock it or not. Making me wait 30 minutes for it.

What I actually said in my reply, in the context of defining computer / electronics oriented chain stores was this:

Which part of "large chain retailer" was unclear?

Here in Canada and the US, we have a number of such establishments. Some, like Tandy / Radio Shack / Circuit City-The Source are still in business. Others, like Computer City are no longer with us. And then there a chains like TigerDirect, which have semi-competent staff. TigerDirect sells OEM stuff, unlike any of the others which are limited to retail-packaged product.

ETC.....

You ignored the clear distinction I made between something like FutureShop and Wal-Mart and stores whose primary or exclusive busisneess was / is selling computers and computer parts. Computer City is / was an American Chain that tried to set up operations in Canada. They failed here, and I don't know if they are still in business in the US. TigerDirect most assuredly is still in business. And some of their staff is very knowledgeable while others aren't. I believe that I addressed that issue in the remainder of my reply.

As for the part of my comment you did use, well out of context and doesn't support your own argument comes to mind. Computer City certainly did have banks of cash registers, as does the TigerDirect store near where I live. I wonder how you actually define the term store and how you differentiate between large, medium and small.

I also note that you continue to give the impression that staff at the store you visit should be mind readers and understand instantly that you mean an AMD Socket AM2 MoBo when you spew off a particular model number. This will never happen. And what happens if the particular model number springing from your lips is from a manufacturer the store doesn't sell? Hmmm?

You need to get a grip. Stop ranting. You also need to review techniques of debate and discussion. While you are at it, please look into some memory-improvement excerises.

Exactly.

You don't realize how much they are there for you until you don't have them there for you anymore.

Considering newegg doesn't have the e4300 yet, its no wonder that large retail chains aren't going to have it either. And mom&pop stores most likely won't get it for quite a while longer.

Especially right now, when the chip costs more than an e6300.

Early adopters in the big chain buisiness are going to lose LOTS of money.

Because they are not all in this forum...

Don't get me started on this. Suffice to say that I have read more misinformation in these forums than I can shake a stick at.

Just because you read the THG Forums does not make you an expert by any stretch of the imagination.

Sure, there are a good number of smart cookies in here, but it's also teeming with 1D10T's.

To defend the sales guy I deal with... If he doesn't know about something, he will be the first to admit it and allow himself to be educated by the consumer.

In all honesty, the reason there are so many idiot PC sales people is that the job just doesn't pay enough to keep the smart ones around. Thankfully the place I deal with recongnizes this and pays their smart ones a decent wage and a lucrative commission on gross sales.

Lol this thread is awesome. Nvm i spent nearly an hour reading thru all the posts, i think i've found my flock.

Anyways years back when SATA was a new thing, I just started work as a sales person for this computer store. The manager had me shadow her as "training" so i heard her telling this guy "This PC runs better cause its processor supports SATA. It increases its processing power!" I tried cutting in to tell him what it actually is but she gave me the "look". I never went back there to work.

A couple of years back i was looking around for a laptop and was trying to get one that has discreet GPU Ram (TurboCache & Hypermemory were starting to flood the market). So i was told this sales guy what i wanted but he told me "Why don't you get this, it has Hypermemory." I then reminded him that i was looking for one that has discreet GPU ram and he told me that 512 Hypermemory is discreet. Even after trying to tell him that Hypermemory uses the main system memory he still insists that he is right....

Did I hit a softspot somewhere that you got so offensive or are you actually working for one of those shops?

Techniques of debate and discussion!? Memory-improvement!? Meh, I've been around way longer than you, got more posts and don't go insulting people like you for no good reason. Your the one that needs to get a grip.

First of all, I don't usually go to that shop (because the employees are all stupid and the products are expensive). None of the regular shops had stock left.

Second, it doesn't take a mindreader to know what an AM2 mobo is. I didn't specify any model number or any specifics except that it is socket AM2. I said ANY ONE WILL DO.

I bought my previous AMD products from them so I assumed they would still sell it. I wasn't angry at them because they don't sell anything AMD anymore (prolly new management) I was angry because they don't even know what it is. (How long has AM2 been out??? And they still don't know what it is!!!)

I certainly did not ignore your distinction between large chain retailers and a computer store. It doesn't take a genius to know the difference. This is most definately a computer store.

I'm done with trying to reason with you. I doesn't seem to sink in. I'm out.

It doesn't matter how slowly you type - your own posts make it crystal clear that no matter how slowly I read, it is still extremely, much faster than you think.

Soft Spot and "are you actually working for one of those shops?".

Ummmmm...

No, no soft spot. As even a cursory review will show, you are the one who directly and selectively responded to my original post. And continued to selectively misquote me out of context. And failed to either acknowledge or address any of the points in either my original post or subsequent replies to your rants. And no, I don't work for any of these chains. What I actually do is test drinking water in the jurisdiction where I live. Keeping the citizens safe - even morons like you. What do you do?

Your observation that you have: "Meh, I've been around way longer than you, got more posts and don't go insulting people like you for no good reason." is meaningless drivel at best.

Firstly this isn't the only place where I have posted comments

Secondly, just because I have registered in this forum recently doesn't mean that I haven't been following it for a long time.

Thirdly, your claim about relative number of posts is, shall we say, entertaning. I myself would be cautious about claiming "more posts" than someone else given that a very significant number of posts in these forums are merely personal quips, thread hi-jacks having nothing to do with the OP, personal flame wars of varying degrees of virulence and similar garbage. And how many of your posts fall into these categories? In this thread, I'd say every single one of them. So much for "...way longer .... got more posts..." And as for "insulting people".. well, you asked for it and you got it. Bitch.

Fourthly, you are assuming a relative time frame of experience and "know-how" based on limited "acquaintance". Given that I am 48 years old, on what basis do you presume to either judge or criticize my knowledge, attitude or performance. Unless you are either older than me, or very close to my age, you would be wise to be a leeetle more circumspect in your "comments". The lilklihood that I have forgotten things you are just discovering is great, given your performance.

You demonstrably refuse to remember what you yourself said / wrote - you had better believe it that you need to review not only your debating skills and techniques, but your attitude as well. And you did ignore distinctions I made between establishments like Best-Buy and Computer City and TigerDirect.

If you don't "usually" go to a particular store because you "KNOW" the staff are "ignorant" and "stupid", not to mention that they are "expensive" - aka rip-off artists - WHERE THE FU** do you get off whining about ANY aspect of whatever level of service you got there?

How dare you denigrate anyone who calls you in any way on your own self-expressed stupidity?

Your own posts show that you are an incompetent, stupid moron. Slither back under whatever slimey rock it is you call home. Don't come back until you can demonstrably show that your cognition and logic performance is at a level superior to what my 2-year old niece demonstrates when I baby-sit her.

Take a one month general PC course and all of a sudden your working in a place filled with computer parts and wondering to yourself if the last customer was asking for a motherboard that allowed the time to be 'overclocked'.

I go in with my limited knowledge and start talking specifics at best buy and before you know it all the tech geeks are conversing with me,and 1/3rd of the time they are scratching their heads.   rockstardom of a different nature

Got a better one for you vern:

I work at Wal-Mart as a cashier and am on the front side of the store all the time. The guys in the electronics department are known to send customers to my register with arm loads of software because they can't figure out if McAffee or Nortons is the better buy.

Now the good geek part of me wants to tell them to go home and download ZA, AVG, AdAware and the standard plethora of free stuff. However the inner Ferengi in me just goes ahead and sells the stuff to them then the good geek side of me comes out and tells them "If this doesn't fix your problems go download these free programs" and usually I've just sold someone $200 of non-returnable software.  😳

And if you think that's funny listen to this one. During the holidays when we sell electronics galore and employee theft is at an all time high, my manager gives me the keys to the entire electronics department and leaves me there by myself to face down this onslought. Picture this, a single 19yr old college student/geek doing the work of 6 "highly trained" and well paid managers and not one single theft and no customer complaints. In fact they compliment me and tell my managers that if they had more people like me they'd be happier customers. Mega-tasking is such a great skill to have when selling a PS3, X-Box 360, Wii, DS, 4 software suites, 2 PC's, and dealing with 5 other people who claim that there PC was busted by me. Not trying to brag or nothing

Anywho, people in those jobs just don't care enough to care, let alone actually be knowledgeable about their products.

Why are local computer stores full of idiot employees!?!
Because idiots need to work too.

And they couldn't qualify for a job flipping burgers at McDonald's, too technical for them.

i know at my local "breast buy" theres 1 kid who knows his stuff, 8O 😀 as too Macdonald's ,my local McMoron employes cant even get " add big mack" sauce right

Your best bet is on line

My local McD's can't find the meat patties to place between the buns.

And it just didn't happen to me.

I returned the meatless burger. A young teen clerk yells at the dorky older teen manager that she had another customer with a meatless burger. Manager's response was ..... I wonder how that happened.

Buddy

You really are trying to pick a fight. Over at least three (3) seperate and unrelated threads and PM.

Yes you are open to a slander and defamation of character lawsuit. There are two lawyers in my family, one of whom is a QC. I know these things.

More to the point, since I raised the issue in a PM to you, in order to prevent hi-jacking threads, please explain to the public your justification for bringing this up in the public forum. Especially since this has absolutely nothing to do with either the subject of the OP. Equally important, on what basis do you presume to pursue any sort of personal vendetta over several threads that have nothing to do with the context of the OPs question?

And you call me a loser?

You are a TROLL. And a stupid one at that.
