Dude, they are in stock. Read my post 4 comments above.

EASY DUDE, they are in stock as much as a 5870 or a 5850 is in stock. Look at your link, it say ETA. Thats means they are not currently in stock.

The ETA on an SSD is very different from the ETA on a 5850 or 5870. I can bet that the SSD will be available as soon as they get them in, while the 5850/5870 will take about 1,000,000 refresh clicks and you still won't be able to get it in your cart =)

Ah, didn't see that. You're seriously going to buy it at that price? I bought my SSD's for a little over twice the cost, but gives 4 times the performance and 3 times the storage space. If it was $85, I'd understand, even though mail-in rebates are a headache (more hassle than they're worth).

They have the lesser performing Kingston ssd's in stock. The point is this model as almost the performance in a lot of important areas as the Intel 80 gig xm-25. Where it is not as fast or as fast as conventional platter HD's is transfering large files around. But loading your os, your favorite game, your applications it has THE top tier performance numbers. Settling for the other ssd's would be like settling for a 5750 when you wanted a 5870.
Heres Tom's article announcing it, notice the wording........
*************Get Kingston's Intel G2 SSD for Just $85**************
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/kingston-intel-ssd-solid-state,8932.html

Yeah, but it's not $85 anymore.

And a 5850 is not at 259.99 anymore. Its all relative, or its not. Amazon is stating that it has a vendor that is selling it for 107.00. But regardless, the Intel xm-25 is supposed to be available aroun 239.00 and its NOT. Just another sign that this model is going to be the real deal and vendors are getting greedy up front.

I saw a 5850 go for 339.99$ and a 5870 go for 439.95 on e-bay last night. So whoever has them in stock can sell them for much more than what they are worth. Pretty sweet =) just like when the PS3 and 360 came out ....

So your point is, it's worth spending $125 on a 40GB SSD now, while a couple months ago 128GB SSD's that perform 4x better was selling at $260?

Nope thats not my point, we can't change the past, and those drives don't perform 4x this new 129.00 drive. Those drives compare similarly to some of the othe drives on newegg, some offered by Kingston themeselves. Your just ignoring the data about this new offering, for whatever reason. Its all good.

There's different data from different reviews. Going by just one is a little biased. You have to factor in all the data from different tests to make good a decision. What I see in the reviews is that it compares close to the Intel x25-m in I/O's, is similar in seek times to other SSD's, but pales in comparison (thus the 4x performance difference) in sequential writes, and is not really as fast in sequential reads as indicated (the specs listed by Kingston was produced by internal tests).

UPDATE
Well the reviews of this ssd claim almost top device performance. And its now available as a shell shocker deal at the 100 dollar price point at newegg.
Get yours early, it will be sold out and back to 129.99 by the end of today.
Best deal ever ?

Update AGAIN: Sold out, that took place between 1:00 am and 6:00 am.

Simple, GREED and an extremely short term view.

Funny about SSD pricing as we get closer to xmas. It has jumped through the roof for 120G sizes! I was watching new egg prices starting last month and the following has happened,

OCZ Vertex 120G SSD:
Last month: 160.00 (w rebate)
Last week: 399.00
Yesterday: 425.00
This morning: 475
right now 499.00
Thats a 100% increase last month and another 25% increase in the last bloody week!!! Kinds like a house going from 500K to 1.5 Million (and we all know how that worked out).

To sum up Newegg is now charging MORE than a real walk in store with replacements on hand and people actually serving you etc and my new mobo is cheaper in person than Newwegg also by 25%. When you add shipping ontop you are paying even more extra gravy to buy from Newegg. Why?

2 things to do:
#1: STOP buying from Newegg until they become a better deal again!
#2: Say no to purchasing any SSD's until they come back to reasonable price (in comparison to now).

I personally do have the money to spend but sometimes its the POINT that matters and you just have to say screw it.
I can wait , can you?

Amen.

I believe it took place at 12:00pm pdt, 3:00am eastern time.
I logged on at 3:05 and grabbed one for $85 after MIR.
The drive claims a sustained read of 170mb/ps, but using hd-tune I had an average of 215mb/ps.
