Hello, I was just coming on here to see why my brand new ethernet and my old cat 8 ethernet can only go up to 1GB in the speed in duplex setting, I upgraded my internet recently to 2K/2K so i want to get the full benefit of having it, Tried 3 different ethernet cords all are cat7-cat8, Just bought a brand new one so I really don't think its the ethernets, I am plugged into a 10GB port on my router so I also do not think its that, I'm currently running a RTX 3070 / I9-10850k and a ASUS TUF Gaming z490-Plus motherboard.

Thank you!

Can the 10g port on the router also run 2.5g. Some of those ports will only run 10gbit and 1gbit and do not support 2.5 or 5.

Try a older cat5e cable. I forget the length that is certified to run 2.5g but it is longer than most people would use in their house.

Key here is almost all cat8 cables are fake...unless you paid about $50 for it. Cat7 cables also tend to be fakes and technically cat7 doesn't exist they never fully certified it once cat6a cables came to market for less than 1/2 the cost and would also run at 10gbit.

I believe the router can run 2.5g, The guy that setup the internet tested it via his laptop before he left with a cat6e cable and he was getting around 2k/2k, The router is a Calix U6t, And It might be a fake ethernet but Advertised as 10GB, its an Amazon Basics one. It is also 100 FT, not sure if that would cap the speed and duplex at 1gb though, I feel like it would still be able to let me set it to 2.5 - 5, But I think I have a cat6e somewhere So i'll go look for it and give it a shot, Thank you.

But Intel® I219-V on ASUS TUF Gaming z490-Plus only supports 1gbit
I am so silly. I saw the chipset and said that is only 1gbit but also saw stuff on the page that said 2.5g ethernet. Seems that part of the page was a advertisement for another asus product on asus site. You would think by now I would not be tricked by the marketing guys.

So you will never get more than 1gbit without buying a different nic card.

Note make sure you uninstall asus so called turbo lan garbage. They install cfosspeed with the bloatware packaged with the motherboard drivers. Be very sure you uninstall that because it greatly reduces the speed on very fast internet connections.
