Why can my PC run games on the highest settings?

Just a quick question.

My PC is by no means the greatest, and falls just within minimum specs for most current games, however I've been able to run things like Mafia 3 and Battlefield 1 on the highest settings at 60fps?

Just wondering why and if it's not good to push it even though it runs them smoothly?

Specs are;
CPU: intel 2500 3.3GHz
GPU: GTX 780
8gb RAM

Solution

The i5 2500 is still a great quad. Intel hasn't made much progress in ipg. The 8GB tho is a bit low bit still very reasonable. I suggest if you want to upgrade wait the after CES in January. The i5 7600K with a GTX 2070 would be my suggestion. The i5 7600K leaks say it can OC to 5.1Ghz and the 2070 leak has it at 20% faster for the same price as the 1070..
@elbert didn't mean to pick as best answer my phone is just annoying Hahaha

I actually use my TV but yeah it's 1080p
I thought I'd be playing at low settings with my specs though!

Okay that's good to know! But even my CPU and RAM are really weak no?

IbPC, I removed the best answer seeing as you said you did it by accident. Feel free to select a post that you want on purpose. Even if it's the same one you did by accident.

The 2500 and 780 are both still very good for gaming. And games aren't really using more than 8GBs yet. So you should be good for quite awhile. The recommended specs are moving to an 8thread CPU like the 3770K, so you might be having some CPU issues soon/eventually. But your setup is still quite good.

Thank you for that!

What do you mean when you talk about CPU issues? You mean with future titles?
