Why cant i pull up my icons

Hello, my computer's on just fine but when it boot's up there are no icon's on my desk top does anyone know how to help me please thanks..

ya there is a task bar but when u pull it up there is nothing on the left side.. and i think all of my files are gone..i dont have pic's no music i cant figure out what the heck happened..can u help..?

If I remember right it is a virus that hides files and folders.
