So i recently got a blue screen error. Driver_power_state_failure. When i tried to restart my computer, it wouldnt. i tried everything and it still wouldnt boot normally. I just got stuck in the windows boot loading. So i decided to reinstall windows. After a lot of effort i finally got it to boot up on the USB. But i had to disconnect my HDD for it to work.
Now windows is reinstalled and everything works fine. Except for when i plug in my HDD. If i plug it in and restart my PC, it wont boot and gets stuck in windows loading like before i reinstalled windows. I have tried to unplug the HDD, and hotplug it back in when the pc is booted up. But here weird things happen. When i got to CMD-diskpart, it wont open the diskpart? When i try to go to computermanagement-diskmanagement, it wont load any disks?
When i unplug HDD everything works fine again.
So does anyone know what is happening? I really need help. I just want to wipe the HDD. There is nothing on it i cant afford to loose.

I really need help

Thanks in advance
Jakob

Welcome to the forums my friend!

Sounds like the HDD is dead or dying.

These symptoms are fairly common for faulty hard drives. It can also be a driver with the hard drive conflicting with your OS, thus the Power State Failure. It may be worth seeing what drivers are installed for the drive. And running HD Sentinel to see if you can detect it and at least test the SMART status of it.

Hi, thanks for your response

The HDD is a Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" HDD. It is only 3 months old and has worked without any complaints. Until that fault suddenly happened.

So what you are saying is that if i cant find it in HDSentinel, then it is a lost cause? Would you know if there is still warranty on it, being only 3 months old?

EDIT: Now i tried using HDSentinel. Without the HDD plugged in, it registers my two SSD's just fine, and it shows them as healthy. As soon as i hotplug my HDD in, HDSentinel freezes, and refuses to start up again. (Note: i have to hotplug it in while pc is running, cause i cant boot pc with HDD plugged in)
I think im gonna look into getting it replaced. Comments and ideas are still welcome :)

Not necessarily, just that if you can get it detected on HD Sentinel or CrystalDiskInfo for example, then it may give you a clearer idea as to if there is something obviously wrong with the drive.

Just a drive suddenly causing the PC to freeze up and disappearing from use is a clear sign of a faulty drive or a faulty driver associated to the drive, and it's very commonly the former.

There will absolutely be warranty on it if it is faulty, and seagate should cover it. It may also be worth changing SATA cables and SATA ports to eliminate that as the possibility, can you get the disk detected in Device Manager when it is plugged in?

I have updated the previous comment to what i found in HDSentinel, if it helps :)

As to your question - no it wont show up in Device Manager. There is really no sign of it being plugged in, other than the pc acting weird

Update:
I talked to the store i bought it at, and they agree with the assumption that its faulty, and they are sending me a new one straight away.
Thanks for the help :)
