Why do I lag on minecraft on my laptop which is better than my desktop?

Im playing on a modpack on the technic launcher and I was playing on my desktop fine, then I went over to play on my laptop which is way better and it lags horribly. any advice?

Laptop specs:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7300HQ CPU @ 2.50ghz
8gb installed ram
64bit operating system
windows 10
nvidia gtx 1050 ti 4gb

Check your disc usage in task manager when you're playing. I've had issues with Windows 10 on laptops that have caused it to be at 99% consistently. Were you playing on the same server, there could have been network lag going on as well with packet loss.
