Why do people often say that Half Life is better than Half Life 2?

I understand looking at it from the perspective of the era it debuted in; what Half Life brought to the table, the innovation, the entertainment level, etc. Simply put, the original Half Life was/is an amazing game. It no doubt utilized the Quake engine far better than any game before it, arguably even surpassing Id Software's "Quake".

But...

Half Life 2 and the Source engine was revolutionary. From the gravity gun and real time physics calculations, to the Combine, weapons, sound, and AMAZING graphics; every facet of Half Life 2 screamed epic. This was the game that ushered in the current generation of interactive entertainment. This was the game that really opened up PC gaming, blowing everyone away in the process.

For anyone to even remotely insinuate that Half Life is superior to it's sequel is indicative of a severe lack of gamer appreciation.

I am old enough to remember both games well. I have played both games. Half Life, was an absolute blast at the time, but Half Life 2 totally and completely took my world by storm. Half Life 2 is STILL the best first person shooter out there today. Half Life 2 is so good, that it has totally spoiled me from enjoying other shooters. When playing other shooters, I say to myself, "I am playing this (insert shooter), when I could be playing THIS (Half Life 2).

This is not merely a matter of opinion. Anyone with a working pair of eyes can see it.

Half Life 2 far surpasses Half Life.

Thanks.

Again I've got to agree with you. Me and my girlfriend tried playing through Fallout 3 because it did look like a really good game but we just found it boring and lost interest after about an hour or two and never played it since. I thought about buying it again or maybe giving new vegas a try, but I know i'll end up bord again, its one of them games I wish I could like.

Metro 2033 is one of...

you need to add witcher 2 to that list

Yeah. I caught that after I had posted it. I remembered when Crysis 2 came out and the 360 had terrible texture loading. But I never really knew about the money aspect of it. My 360 was piece of junk and after sending it in 3 times we just broke it open and fixed it ourselves. I swear it works better than it did originally. Thanks for the info, I appreciate it.

crysis 2 on the 360 had fps issues as well. the PC version ran way better for me, even with the DX11 mode

No problem, man.

I spent enough years shoveling money down the toilet, let me tell you. And the best thing about gaming on the PC is not just value for your buck, at least not to me. The best thing is the quality of the gaming experience.

1. Better graphics
2. More mature online community (less racism, trash talk, profanity, etc)
3. Better controls
4. Mods
5. More options (the sky is the limit)

It is for these reasons that I really don't understand why anyone would pick console gaming, but that is just my opinion, I guess.

Peace.

I played the Crysis 2 demo on Origin a while back and maxed it in DX9 with a 5770.

I couldn't max the original Crysis unless I played in 1280x720 with AA off.

the 5770 runs crysis ok for its price and class... it is a great performer. crysis 2 was a pushover before the DX11 patch

I never did buy Crysis 2. I was a little ticked about having to go through Origin, and after playing the demo I was a little underwhelmed, to say the least.

Cool man. I might look into that. If I can find it for 20 bucks or so. I really did not like it enough to pay more than that. It may be worth a second go, who knows...

Try it out. It has a really good single player. I've never got round to getting further than hour into Crysis (mainly due to my previous computer not been upto playing it) but Crysis 2 I really enjoyed (I played it on the 360 before I was into pc gaming), it was one of them games for me that once you complete it you sit there taking everything in that happend in the game, and it had that kinda "wow" feeling for me.

lulz... my steam tags are IIILSDIII... (no *** either ask admin 😉 they banned my avatar then my name after they said it was to psychedelic... )

That's cool man.

I had an avatar banned once. I had to photoshop and edit out the part deemed offensive (middle finger).
