Why do we even have USB 3.0? It doesn't seem any faster.

I have a computer with only USB 2.0 interfaces.
I recently bought a 128gb flash drive that has USB 3.0 interface.
I have heard USB 3.0 is ten times faster than USB 2.0, so I installed a PCI express USB 3.0 card in my PCIE slot, and installed the drivers as well.
When I write to my 128gb flash drive, the speed of USB 2.0 slot writes at about 23mb/s.
When I write to my flash drive using the newly installed USB 3.0 slot, it goes at 27mb/s.
That's not ten times. It's just a little more. I was expecting near 200mb/s write speed.
What am I missing here, and is this the point of USB 3.0? Thank you

not necessarily should always look for the speed when buying a flash drive

if you know the model number can look it up though

So how much much write speed will drop if you use your SD extreme drive in a USB 2.0?
I just did a benchmark report on my samsung drive. here it is. strange, because i don't get that 60mb/s!!

Not at home but will try it in a USB 2 port for you once I get home in an hour or 2

ok so tested with 1 very large file to see the max speed a lot of small files would be a bit slower obviously but just wanted to compare different ports

copied 41gb pcv file from flash drive to m2

constant straight line at 247MBs for motherboard usb 3.0

constant straight line 242MBs for startech usb 3.0 add in card

constant straight line of 42MBs for motherboard usb 2.0

so thats why we have usb 3.0 almost 6x the speed of usb 2.0 and this isnt the fastest usb 3.0 drive money can buy

what's m2? is it an ssd you have?
also, isn't that read speed that you just tested? i think you tested the read speed of the flash drive, and write speed of the ssd.
shouldn't you move the file INTO the flash drive to test its write speed?
thanks for all the replies. i'm less dissapointed in my flash drive now. i accept my fate.

yes i only tested the read speed to show the difference between usb 2.0 and 3.0 for you

i can also test the write speed if you want but its just going to show the same thing--ie usb 3.0 is much faster provided you have something attached to it thats fast enough to use it

and m2 as said is the latest standard comes in sata or pci-e

pci-e x4 the fastest m2 drives are roughly 6x faster than a sata ssd in read and roughly 4 or 5 times faster in write

It is simply due to being a flash drive. They are slower.

I have an external 4 bay USB 3.0 HDD enclosure
I also have a USB 3.0 USB stick.

writing to a HDD in the 3.0 enclosure is miles faster than writing the same file to the USB 3.0 stick.
