Why does changing my Router's default IP Address fix my connection?

Geniunely interested here. Recently after resetting my Router and going through a whole lot of trouble just to get it working again with my PC, on a whim I just decided to change my router for the first time from its default LAN IP 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.2. To my surprise, holy crap it actually worked; so if anyone can help shed some light on this it'll be appreciated.

I second what the poster above me said. Something on your network seems that it may be set with a static address of 192.168.0.1. You should be able to see all the devices connected to your router and which IP address has been given to each device. In the future, if you ever have trouble with connecting to your router and it's really bad, just connect your computer directly to the router with a network cable. As long as that computer is not set with a static IP address, you will be connected with the router and then you can just enter the ip config command in command prompt and you will see the router's address listed as the Gateway IP address...if it's still not working just reset the router to factory settings and do the same thing.
