I have an ASUS ROG Swift PG329Q 32” monitor running windows 11. When I turn on HDR it randomly dims to the regular brightness setting. It's still in HDR mode, but it dims out. It can stay in HDR brightness for 6+ hours sometimes, and others it dims within 1 to 2 hours. This can happen in the middle of gaming, watching videos, or just sitting on the desktop. I can re enable it immediately and it will stay on for a random amount of time again until it just goes back to being dim.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you for taking the time to read.

Device name xxxx
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-10900K CPU @ 3.70GHz 3.70 GHz
Installed RAM 32.0 GB
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
GPU rtx 3080 ti

system drivers are up to date, Ill dl the driver to see if that that makes a difference, It has stayed in full HDR with no dimming all day today. So i'll wait for it to dim again before I install the drivers just so I know I'm starting from scratch when I install them.

Interesting.

Try using Relibility History/Monitor and Event Viewer to determine if either one or both tools may be capturing some error code, warning, or simply an informational event that occurs just before or at the time of the dimming.

Even though the dimming is random you may be able to spot something.

Start with Reliability History. Much more end user friendly and the timeline format may reveal a pattern of some sort.

Event Viewer requires more time and effort to navigate and understand. To help:

There is no need to rush. Take your time and be methodical.

Howdy,

This is actually a typical issue with HDR mode on Windows 11.
I have an HDR monitor as well and it dims randomly after playing a game or such.

I think the only fix to this problem is waiting for Microsoft.
I also tried everything but whenever it does it, I just turn my monitor off and on again. Janky but ok.

Hopefully this helps.

ive got zero issues on win11 with HDR, compared to win10, its not washed out anymore... you can calibrate it properly and use two color profiles one for SDR and one for HDR and they switch just fine when turning HDR on/off....back in win10 there was no such thing, SDR content on HDR was just washed out, on win11 it looks way better..even SDR colors looks better now with HDR enabled..its like increasing digital vibrance without destroying color acuracy

Little tip, instead of turning your monitor off and back on, press win/alt/b at the same time to turn DHR on or off.

I have calibrated my monitor and I dont have any issues with SDR. The issue is HDR turning off randomly.

In the NVIDIA Control Panel under "Display > Change resolution > 3. Apply the following settings", if you select "Use NVIDIA color settings" instead of "Use default color settings", then the issue with the "HDR and advanced color" toggle bouncing back to the "Off" position occurs. If you leave the "Use default color settings" radio button selected, it will allow the toggle to be set to "On" or "Off" like one would expect.
