Why does it need two??

Why does the <A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813136152" target="_new">DFI LP NF4 Ultra-D</A> need two 16x PCI-e slots? It is not an SLI board.

Doesn't need 2. They save mfg costs by making lots of only 1 board instead of not so many lots of 2 boards. They just drop the different chip in, SLI or Ultra.

I don't know but you can use the second PCIex16 for a different type of card (not that there are a lot of PCIe cards). That's one of the reasons I bought the Epox instead of the DFI

Because at first, the Ultra chipset ccould be modded to become a SLI chipset, enabling SLI for the Ultra.. But nvidia answer to that y disabling this capability in their drivers.

And when you know that game profiles has to be programmed in drivers in order for SLI to work with the game, you need to update drivers to stay compatible with current games.

So, either you mod the chipset to have a fake SLI mobo and use oldest drivers and no support for current game or you update drivers, but have the fake SLI disabled and then worthless..

So, it is now a lost-lost game ...

It's the same circuit board as their SLi chipset motherboard. And you used to be able to hack the chipset to be an SLi chipset. But even with that hack not possible, you can still split the bus for use with 2 graphics cards.

It's a good board even if they don't OC and don't use the PCIeX16 extra slot, so don't worry.
