why does it take forever for my desktop to appear?

when booting up after the welcome screen my desktop background appears and stays that way for about a minute and a half until the icons and bottom bar loads in.
what is causing this?

Look in System Configuration/Start Up and see how many items you have checked. Then look and see how many items you have in Start/All Programs/Startup.

We need more information. Possibly its a hard drive getting flaky.

there is 10 startup items.

That's not too bad if that's the total from both locations. Maybe your system is bogged down with junk files, registry errors, and other crap. Run CCleaner. Do the Clean and Registry portions both. You may have to run it more than once... until it comes back clean.

ok it said i had 145 errors in the registry
That's not too bad if that's the total from both locations. Maybe your system is bogged down with junk files, registry errors, and other crap. Run CCleaner. Do the Clean and Registry portions both. You may have to run it more than once... until it comes back clean.

ok that worked well , plus i used a third party disk defragger, which revealed that i had 2 huge files that were spread across the whole drive. i deleted those.
and now the computer boots up fast desktop loads instantly.
but now an error that says daemonu.exe that takes 1 minute to come up and i cant do anything until it goes away

Why did you delete the 2 files?! Did you even know what they were for? You should have just let the defrag program defragment them.

the 2 files was just a video i recorded a while back , and a game my bro downloaded that he doesnt play , deleting those freed 13 gigs from my hdd.

after ironing out another small issue the computer runs like a top now, no longer slow at startup 😀

Good. Glad to hear of the success. Just to be sure, you may want to run a disk error check to be sure those 2 huge files were the only thing wiped out.
