[SOLVED] Why does my computer take a long time to shut down?

I just tried to turn off my pc and it took forever to shut down. When i booted it back up it took a while to get into windows and when it did, it was incredibly slow.

Possibly due to an update to either Windows or some other program on your system. If you shut down and restart again, is it still as slow?

Yeah it's still slow even after a restart, it still takes a while to shut down even when i restart it.

Open up Task Manager and go to the Startup Tab. See if there's anything new listed there and is still Enabled. If you find something odd there and it's Enabled, disable it.

I think that worth to get your PC scanned, since there could be viruses or hidden processes which make your switching off really slow.

or just do a clean boot and see if it helps - make sure to read instructions and make sure NOT to disable any microsoft services or windows won't load right - https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

if clean boot fixes it, it shows its likely a startup program. You should, over a number of startups. restart the programs you stopped to isolate the one that is to blame.

As with Win 10, what loads at startup can influence shutdown times due to how fast startup works.

I checked all of my startup services and they seem fine.

What is boot drive? SSD or HDD?

Try running HD Sentinel Trial and on the disk tab, run any scans you can on the drive(s) in PC. A hdd going bad can slow down everything. https://www.hdsentinel.com/hard_disk_sentinel_trial.php

Could try a defrag if C is a hdd
