why does my computer wrongly tell me there are operations in progress and it will turn itself off when completed. It never tur

Often when I attempt to turn my computer off it will show a screen message that says 'operations are in progress the computer will turn itself off when these are completed'. But it never turns off and I have to force closure.

some programs seem to hang when you try and shut down.

if you have all windows and programs closed then it might be the antivirus or other background program. sometimes desktop widgets (win7) can cause a hang.

please list answers to:
-name of the program which hangs
-if you shut down with windows open (like word, firefox, other programs) or with nothing open
-if it has always done this or if this is a new development
-your windows version
