Question Why does my laptop run so slow on boot up?

The past year or so my laptop runs really slow for a full 1-2 minutes after the desktop appears. Task Manager shows disk maxed out 100% for this entire time. Shows system process at top most of that time using most resource. I've googled this several times and have disabled many processes not needed on startup and it hasn't helped. I show 549 gb of free space on HD, I continually check for updated drivers. I'm running a HP L0Q89UA#ABA with Win 8.1 update Intel i5-5200U with 8gb RAM (upgraded from 6gb). I cleared cookies and temp files often to no avail, and defragment hd...doesn't seem as effective with these newer hd's as it once was. I know this isn't the fastest machine nor ever was, but I don't run anything very high demand very often at all. And it just used to be faster, I didn't have to wait for minutes after boot up to really open anything...I can open chrome, and it'll eventually open, but I get bored waiting for it to open and able to use it. This is especially irritating when I am trying to do something really quickly in the morning before running out the door for work. There just has to be something I've missed and can't find via google. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a HDD issue from my experience.

I would run Hard Disk Sentinal to diagnose any hard drive faults.

I tried this and it shows "The hard disk status is PERFECT. Problematic or weak sectors were not found and there are no spin up or data transfer errors.

No actions needed."

Reverify your available disk space. Make sure it says Gigabyte (GB) and not Megabyte (MB).
In Task Manager, make sure it reports all 8GB of RAM is available.

It's all good. I don't have much on the drive, documents, spreadsheets, some pics (not a ton), no videos or movies, I keep bloatware removed as well as any unused third party programs.

Run a malware scan with malwarebytes.

What all starts uo with windows? Task manager shows this

Replace that mechanical storage with a SSD. The results will be amazing!

Not a ton, trying to post a screenshot, but I can't seem to figure out how to insert pic from file vs website. MB found like 63 potential threats, but was all temp internet files stored in Chrome folders, one file it showed as Malware, but it was from my "clip grabber" program folder. I quarantined that file anyway.

Replace that mechanical storage with a SSD. The results will be amazing!

I understand that, but I don't think it can be replaced on a laptop...last time I tried, the drive needed to be the same size as original due to the image of windows to be copied to the drive wasn't compatible.

Ive upgraded several laptops to ssds. Its as easy as pie.
You will need a larger drive that the filled size on your hdd.

I've tried it on a HP a few years back. I don't recall the exact size, the SSD was bigger than needed for windows to install, I don't remember the exact issues, but it just wouldn't work. When I bought the same model drive that came with it, it worked easy as pie...maybe an HP "controlling" issue?? When I replaced the laptop I would've went SSD from factory, but it was covered by insurance after a fire, and I couldn't "upgrade" Obviously it's hard not to upgrade when purchasing new when over 3 mo old...but I had to go with minimal higher specs. I was able to get the 17" screen instead of 15" and the cpu was only slightly faster.
