Symptoms being, computer turning off when playing games, can not turn back on until the PSU is toggled in on and off state, when system shuts off weird chemical smell is present (assumed it to be the new case, now suspecting the PSU). Did not have any of these symptoms in my old set up.

Current system: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/YYk6Zw

The only things that have changed were: Deepcool Matrexx 50 -> Hyte Y60

Cable Extensions: https://www.amazon.com/Antec-Cables...ocphy=9033267&hvtargid=pla-1280098560407&th=1

2/3 of these new fans on molex power: https://www.newegg.com/p/1YF-01JK-00013?Item=9SIB7W5GVJ5009

Plugged in all 3 pcie 6+2 pins in my GPU (Previously only two 6+2 and a daisy chain)

Use the internet to do try to self diagnose my issues, bios updated (2 months ago), dropped power limit to 70 through msi afterburner, unplugged 3 fans in my case (left the molex ones on), no OC bios on my GPU, no OC except RAM, and rewire everything.
I had no previous issues with running my system with a 850, used several wattage calculators to check the power draws of all my pc parts. I have no spare PSUs to test if its truly the PSU at fault, if it helps PSU has been used for 4-5 months.

Been to the PC Help Discord 3 times been told your "850 is not enough to power a 3080" or "Undervolt your parts", used the reddits to get no responses . At this point I can accept that this PSU is dying after 5ish months, but can I get a why or what are the cause of these symptoms, And If I were to get a psu

The issue being that the power provided not being enough, is causing the system to over draw the psu capacitors which is is trigging the shutdown state do to all power in the psu is drained at once. So instead of causing a system blow up the psu cuts out. The reset of the psu allows it to recover the lost power and repower the caps

Ok thank you, does this mean any of the caps are damaged and not usable for future use, for example not able to pass it to a friend in need of a higher watt PSU?

Not sure about this. The RM850X is a damn good power supply.
The transient power spikes seen on the 3080/3090 cards are a real thing though.

Did everything work fine in your old case? Same games, same resolution, same settings, same OS...?

yeah everything was fine in my old case, I did do a fresh reinstall of windows (I do this every year), though I cant figure out what exactly could have happened

THIS could be the issue.
Build the system outside the case without any extensions and put it through its paces.
Will try soon, the cable management of the y60 is awful so I need to plan a day ahead of time
I wouldn't recommend it you might be able to rma it maybe not due to self inflected damage but if you can rma it give them the new one buy yourself a better one
Ok I will probably try this once I secure another PSU first

Ok Update

Had a Friend lend me his 3070ti and since than I have not had any issues, meaning power consumption is the confirmed issue (since i dont have proper PSU testing equipment I am still gonna attempt to RMA it). Why this is suddenly became issue is beyond me, but the plan is to switch to a 1000+ PSU and test the extension.

Thank you for all the feed back and advice!
