Why does window 7 cd/dvd rom show insert disk when there is cd inside rom

Hello,
each time i insert dvd/cd and open my computer to check, it shows me empty disk. why

Could be dirty disc, dirty laser pick-up or dead laser pick-up. Does it happen with all dvd's? Try a cd, if it registers that a cd is there, then it's likely that your dvd pick-up is dead and you'll need a new dvd drive. I believe they can be repaired, but it's generaly cheaper to just buy a new dvd drive.
