why doesn't my windows vista suddenly recognize my password? I am the only user of my laptop. Everytime I try to log in it gives me an error message of The User Profile failed the logon. User Profile cannot be loaded. When I hot OK, it logs out. How can I be logged out if I cannot even log in?

Sounds like you have a corrupted User Profile. Check this link for some possible help:

Thanks Moderator, but I could not even get passed the log in. I removed the battery just now and re-installed it. Waiting to see what happens

Are you able to access Windows in Safe Mode?

COLgeek, I was able to access Windows in Safe Mode. But I was not sure what to do next. Should I be changing anything? I just changed my password hoping this would help. Then I restarted in normal mode but it did not work

You need to follow the steps in the link provided earlier to make a new profile and copy info from the old to the new. There is no other way to do so (and save your old files).
