Why has the price of my GPU gone up so much?

Hey, does anyone know why the price of this GPU has gone up so much?

I've seen it at over $800 on Amazon. I bought it in February 2014 for $333 on Newegg. I was thinking about getting another one but $600-800 is WAY beyond my budget. I expected it to be cheaper since it's a couple years old...

Because it is being phased out. Nvidia is already working on their next series of GPU's, and they need to stop production of the older chips to make room for the newer chips.

They are out of production, no surprise the prices new will be ridiculous.

Look for them used, they can be found for around $150.

The 770 is listed as EOL by nvidia, end of life. Production has stopped, but the warehouses still have a few left on their shelves.
They raise the prices on the limited stocks, as there is still technically a demand for them.

That makes sense... I'm always nervous about buying used components, but I'll look into it.

That must be some old card they have lying around and forgot to put on sale.
For that price you could buy a GTX980Ti which is like 3 or 4 times faster.

No problem. It's not as risky as you would think, most of the parts in my computer are used and work fine. The same can be said for many others. I would try reddit hardwareswap and craigslist (depends on your area) you should be able to find one there on the cheap.
