Set-Up: I have the Leadership feat. DM's house rule is he gets to pick
what cohorts and followers I get, and how soon. Anyway, one of my
followers is a monk, named William, recently multi-classed to paladin.
In addition, for our party's purposes, we befriend a very powerful mage
with a ship who's helping us in our goals because of mutual
self-interest.
What Happened: The ship was attacked by bad guys. One of them casts a
spell called Soul Shatter, from Relics & Rituals, killing the mage and
separating his soul into eight parts, one of them going into William.
In order to resurrect the mage, all eight shards have to be together.
Trying to find the soul shards as well continue our mission, we do our
thing in meeting people, forming alliances, and so forth. One ally
gives us a weasel which has another soul shard.
We need to leave the ship for awhile. William stays on board. In our
travels we find another soul shard in an assassin vine. With the aid
of an archmage we later befriend, all but one of the other shards are
found.
The punchline: The last shard is discovered to be inside an Oracle who
cannot leave his domicile It is necessary to teleport the weasel and
William to us. We contact the ship through a Rary's Telepathic Bond we
had set up. There is a delay in transporting because William has to
catch the weasel who got loose ....
The monk is chasing the weasel!
