[SOLVED] Why installing drivers is such a mess nowaday?

So basically, after doing a fresh W10 install and DL'ing all latest drivers off Asus website, I still had a PCI to PCI bridge with generic driver and when I let Windows search for better driver, it installs Intel Xeon E3 - 1200/1500 v5/6th Gen Intel Core PCIe Controller (x16) - 1901. I can't find the recent driver that goes with my 300 series chipset.

Well it could be causing issues, I just had some CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT BSOD, happening when PC went to idle (being AFK for like 5min)

I think I found a more appropriate driver Intel(R) PCIe Controller (x16) - 1901 (10.1.7.3)

Did you update the BIOS of your motherboard as well?

Did you install the Intel management drivers and the MEupdate tool from ASUS as well?

In Windows 10 this driver will be delivered by Microsoft

Which windows version are you using? Did you update it to the latest version yet?

Did you overclock your system?

Run the memory test of windows

Can you follow option one on the following link - here - and then do this step below: Small memory dumps - Have Windows Create a Small Memory Dump (Minidump) on BSOD - that creates a file in c windows/minidump after the next BSOD

copy that file to documents

upload the copy from documents to a file sharing web site, and share the link in your thread so we can help fix the problem

It's been a couple days since my post and didn't get any BSOD so far so I guess it was the driver.

is it still 10.1.7.3 that you are using? I have that version already, and windows update is trying to push a newer one out to me but i am hesitant to install it
