I just don't see the point of the cloud my music collection is only 20 gigabytes, most people stream videos, My manga and comic collection is under 20 gigs. My game collection is never going to go over 2 terabytes and I would never put a game n the cloud my whole problem with F2P games is how much of the game is in the cloud and not on your p.c. killing any modding one could do with it.Also cloud gaming is terrible look at Sim City just a horrible idea,Recorded video gameplays only use 150 gigs of space and that is because I am stubborn and still use fraps. Finally why create a extra step.I get het 25 megabit per second transfer speeds max with my internet which is not close to fast enough for the cloud transferring large amounts of date from 1 computer to another would be faster with a outdated standard like usb 2.0. So in general the cloud is just pointless why would some one use it you don't go and put files on your friends computer for back up so why use a strangers. Plus the personal storage you yourself can get makes the cloud just pointless.
And what about the rest of the world?Out here in Asia, international connectivity is usually ALWAYS less than 2Mb/s down, and I won't quote the upload, lest I give you nightmares. So Cloud STORAGE, is simply off limits for some parts of the world. If however, you are talking about hosting your applications in it, well that would be possible, but you'd still be constrained by the aforementioned speeds, and network reliability issues (of which there are many) too.

Everybody loves Windows 7. It's the last OS that Bill Gates framed. He had nothing to do with Windows 8.I think we all know why Bill Gates is back in the picture.

This isn't even mildly true. The CONSUMER market thinks of 'The Cloud" as Dropbox and Drive, but the enterprise [which is Satya's actual focus] looks at Cloud computing, and local cloud technologies [my own workplace uses Windows File Sync, which is a local cloud system built by MS]. Stop thinking in the small terms of consumer perspective, and suddenly the actual abilities of cloud computing become pretty damn limitless. Even the beloved streaming services that allows consumers to avoid local/cloud storage relies heavily on Amazon's cloud-based web services because of the inherent load-balancing they can manage.

I think it means that Balmer almost killed the company, didn't understand what "unified architecture" really means and now Gates will swoop in and be the puppeteer to bring it back up from the brink. Maybe he can even save the Xboner.

The same happened when Apple was spinning in tech-nowhere-land. What did Apple do? The brought back Steve Jobs and now look at Apple's success. Love them or hate them Bill and Steve are genius innovators.

Bill Gates as technology advisor? What I'm hearing is that they might actually make Windows 9 good! But since it's Microsoft we're talking about, there is a chance for disappointment.
Well if we look at the history of Windows, it is very likely that Windows 9 will be one of the best yet. All the way back to Windows 97 which was a hit, then the failure of ME. Windows XP was amazing, then Vista flopped. Windows 7 is even better than XP, but then Windows 8 has issues as well (I don't hate Win8, but I prefer Win7).

FOR GODS SAKE PEOPLE. Cloud doesn't mean just storage. it refers to cloud computing as well. you can use cloud computing and keep all your data localy and private just fine. See this is what i mean by marketed wrong. People don't even understand what the cloud is used for.
"The cloud" is a vague, catch-all term. It's better to avoid cloud speak and refer to things more specifically; ie. STorage as a Service, Software as a Service, Infrastructure as a Service, etc.
And that is just it - the security is absolutely NOT in place.NSA have got to all the corporations. Make your own NAS solution, and lock it right down.
If you encrypt your data before shipping it off then it's just as safe as your NAS, if not safer. Someone can break into your house and steal your NAS. Much harder to do that in a datacentre. Availability is also a security concern, so even if your data is encrypted on the NAS it's useless if you can't access it.

The more we find out about the Target breech, the more it looks like Windows and M$ infrastructure is to blame. Windows will never have much presence in Enterprise Cloud, that's the venue for *nix.

The problem we have is people like Bill gates fail to speak up and tell how it is. We need fiber optic all over. We need 10Gps in the public areas and 1 Gps in the home. So we can ramp out the knowledge economy. Get more things done. But no. Bill failed. Instead we get folk like Uncle fester who is a fool. They don't speak up for these important developments.

AMEN! Absolutely correct in all regards! I don't trust anything in the cloud. I don't even use iCloud to sync my settings between my iDevices.

Don't you mean Windows 95, and Then Windows 98. Both of them were pretty good. ME was a horrible disaster. I hated having to install that on clients machines. But, the sad thing is that ME RC3 was awesome! It was stable, and fast. I was honestly excited for the RTM to come out, and when it did, I was crushed. LOL They should have released RC3.
