Why is hollywood killing 3D? We love 3D and even if the 3D TVs never made it, some of us still get 3D from projectors. I own a home cinema and we usually enjoy 3D blurays with friends but now days the scarcity of these blurays is getting out of hand. I read online and most sites are saying 3D is dead, etc. But why? yet it has some diehards like me and my friends. Someone might argue that the market is small but I argue that let them release these 3D blurays for that small market the same way they still release DVDs! Now they released Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten rings to Japan only. I waited for raya and the last dragon 3d bluray and it never came out, black widow we had to first shout otherwise they were not releasing it too. Why do they continue to frustrate 3D fans? The shift tends to be more towards 4K which is stupid because more pixels dont mean alot as compared to the immersion of 3D. Because depth is how we see in the real world, we dont see flat images therefore 3D is actually how movies are meant to be seen. They can make 4K 3D if they want but 4K 2D CAN NEVER justify killing 3D.
The home cinema movement is on fire with more people purchasing 3D capable projectors but 3d content is becoming scarce everyday.

I've seen a decent amount of movies in 3D. Of them only 2 were memorable. Avatar because it was very much made to take advantage of 3D, and the money it cost to make reflected that. Second was Gravity which I saw in IMAX 3D. Due to the IMAX screen you really did feel like you were in space with Sandra Bullock.

Both of these experiences were facilitated by the fact I was in a dark theater with a massive screen, or in the case of IMAX a screen thats basically all around you. Neither would have been anywhere near as immersive (or worth it) on a TV (even a large one). And any of the other films I saw in 3D was "ok" but had I not seen it in 3D it wouldn't have detracted from the experience. When it comes to gaming VR is massively better and worth the extra development required. And for home viewing (which unless you're living under a rock has become the default this past year), it just isn't worth the expense, or time.

Welp, put me in for one who does NOT want 3D.

Don't get me wrong, when I saw Mad Max: Fury Road in 3D (also watched it in 2D on a different night), the effects were pretty cool. There was one time I legitimately recoiled because I thought a piece of debris was flying right at me.

But, everything seemed slightly out of focus for me. It was clearer/sharper if I closed one eye while watching through the 3D glasses. Naturally, that doesn't do much for the 3D aspect.

It made my eyes ache a little, and gave me a bit of a headache.

Maybe that affects my opinion, but I see it as a gimmick that pops up, is interesting for a short time, and then goes away.
