Why is my computer only displaying in 720p???

Firstly, before I installed the GTX 770 I used the onboard graphics (Intel HD 4600) and had no problems..... now that I'm using the GTX 770 despite choosing 1080p in the windows and Nvidia control panels, all applications open in 720p.

When I play a game it used to say my native resolution was 1080p but now it says it's 720p.

I'm using a HDMI cable connected to a 1080p HD Samsung TV.

Pl double check the screen resolution and ensure that it is 1920 x 1080.

All applications? Have you tried loading Full HD movie or video?

Sorry I meant the desktop, I can select 1920x1080 in games and it plays fine but when I go back to the desktop it reverts back to 1280x720/
