I recently re applied thermal paste to my amd phenom ii x6 1090t and msi r6950 twin frozr ii gpu. I installed a program named Speedfan so I decided to watch my temps I noticed that my cpu temps at idle sat around 36c and then I started up a game the cpu temp went from 36c to around 90c in about 10 to 15 minutes while my gpu temps went from 30c to 77c I know my gpu will heat up pretty good but I never seen my cpu temps reach that high. So if anyone can give me some help on this it would be great! Here are my specs http://clip2net.com/s/69Q1NU ,http://

I will take another look at the heat sink to make sure it is sitting right ty ! I just checked the heat sink seems to be on firm with no play to it :(

Yeah, as Anub1s said. Make sure to clean off the old thermal paste.

Which method did you use to apply the thermal paste? Pea method?
Anyway, too much thermal paste is just as bad as too little, at that point it would insulate not conduct heat.

Heres my problem when it comes to thermal paste I really never did a cpu re apply of paste so I spread the paste out very thin over the entire cpu just seeing the words pea method brings a bad feeling that I may have made a human error on this one perhaps I should re do the cpu and since my gpu temps seem great for running high video settings I will leave the gpu alone how much paste would you guys recommend?

Here's a great video explaining it. They're pretty funny guys too. He explains the worse methods first, the pea method is probably the best. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hNgFNH7zhQ

Also remember to clean off the old thermal paste with isopropyl alcohol (70%+, 90%+ preferably) and some form of lint free material (e.g. coffee filters, lint-free cloth) so you don't get fibres everywhere.

Thanks you guys will update when done re applying paste :) So I just got done applying the new paste using the pea method that was used in the link you to me recommended I watch I noticed from the start of my pc that the cpu temp is sitting at around 39c I played BF4 for about 30 minutes and the temp got to about 86c and held there for minutes afterwards I'm now done playing BF4 and the temp has dropped back down to 39c and holding. Maybe it's just the cpu and it will always heat up like that ?
