Why is my cpu usage so high after upgrading motherboard?

I upgraded my motherboard and heatsink. The first day, my cpu idle temps were about 5 C, the next day the idle temps were 30 C. What could have caused this random spike?

Hi,
First of all you said "usage" then just reported the temperature. I assume you are implying it must be used more as it's getting hotter.

You can MONITOR the CPU usage in the Task Manager-> Performance (CTRL-ALT-DEL).

A CPU may spike for short periods to do Anti-Virus scanning, a preset Image Backup or may be high if you have a Browser open.

Other:
30degC is actually typical for idle whereas 5degC is impossible unless it's pretty darn COLD in your room.

A CPU must be hotter than the room temperature.

I don't know what i was thinking above, but my idle cpu usage is 20% before I upgraded my motherboard the idle usage was 2% Also now there are random 100% usage spikes. The only thing I installed after I upgraded the motherboard was the motherboard drivers and Catalyst control center for my gpu

The other thing is check to see if windows update is doing it, both of my computers (laptop = A6 quad core) (desktop = FX 8350 8 Core) got totally floored to the maximum when windows update was updating....I disabled both.

Just to be clear...
The motherboard has nothing to do with CPU usage. A CPU processes whatever data Windows or other programs send it.

I hope your issue is solved with Malwarebytes. Some malware can cause your drives to be scanned.

If you don't have a good Antivirus solution make sure you get one.

Agreed, Trend Micro is pretty good for 25-50 dollars depending on how many computers you want it on. I have had it for years and have yet to get a virus or anything.

I do have malwarebytes pro and webroot installed, so i don't really know what could be causing this. Maybe its because I did not do a fresh install when upgrading motherboard, only did a sysprep OOBE.

Thanks for your help so far. I'll see if the problem persists tomorrow.

I also recommend creating a BACKUP IMAGE to a secondary drive which you can RESTORE if the drive fails or you get a virus/glitch that can't be sorted out.

Windows Image is okay. I use Acronis True Image for automated, weekly backups. If you have a WD or Seagate drive you can get the FREE version (manual backup only) of Acronis TI (I think Seagate renamed it).

Running full malwarebytes scan, so far 7 issues...
