My house has phone lines wired with ethernet cable and I am trying to use it to connect two rooms together. I have confirmed all of the wires connect to the other side with a multimeter and a battery but when I put the plates (which I have also tested) on the wall and plug my ethernet cables in both ends my laptop does not recognize the network. The only thing I would think could cause the problem would be The .03 volt loss between the two connections. can anyone help me?

You might get it to work with the wires just twisted but ethernet can be picky at times. The cheap and simple way to splice these is with a small patch panel device.

This is one example but there are many of these type things on the market.

It takes only 1 slightly loose connection to make it not work. It may be good enough to get a voltage meter or led to light but not good enough to pass data. You also have to be 100% sure you have all the wire pairs in the correct locations not mixed up.

All you can do it keep redoing the end connections when you do not have the expensive commercial meters that will test and tell you what is wrong.

I have twist wires...

They go from one to the other but not directly there is one room in between the two that I have twisted the wires together so basically they go directly from one to the other.

Twisting network wires is not a good idea since interference signals will be introduced which will degrade the network data signals.

The ideal way to solve the issue would be terminating the ethernet cables with RJ-45 connectors and use a 5-port network switch. The switch will amplify the network signal strength.

oh I thought because it is low voltage the twisted wires wires wouldn't make a difference. That was a temporary solution anyway so would soldering them together help any.
I am trying to avoid a network switch or repeater because The wire currently is in the wall and I cant see it. I also don't want to spend the money since I have already spent so much for this project.

I have twist wires together to make cross cable when I did not have my tools to crimp ends on cables but it is not a recommended thing to do and a tiny bumping of these twisted connections would cause disconnection.
