ok so i am running a i5 2400, 8gb hyper x ram (2x4gb), xfx r7 360, corsair h90 liquid cooling, 1 corsair neutron gtx ssd, 2 seagate 1tb harddrives, all on a gigabyte B75M-D3H motherboard, and my question is my cpu is rated at 3.1ghz, maximum 3.4ghz with turbo boost which i am not running since windows 10 doesn't support it. so why is saying i am running at 6.02 ghz is that even possible???

Solution
This is a common thing with Gigabyte motherboards, they dont report to windows the correct speed. I used to run a Gigabyte Z68 board and it did the same thing.
Where do you see it running at 6.02Ghz? It most likely isn't otherwise it would have fried something already. It's probably buggy software. You could check CPU-Z/AIDA64 to double check the frequencies.

its saying that in my task manger here is a pic

i completely agree this isn't possible and i just noticed something even weirder now on cpu-z its bouncing back and forth between .97v and 1.2v and the core speed is bouncing between 1596-3192 mhz at x16-x32 multiplier what the heck is going on?? ill run a benchmark now

That is completely normal. Speed and voltage adjust continually with load. Everybody's CPUs see exactly the behaviour you describe. Also, cpu-z has answered your original question.

so i ran some more test using passmark and its saying i am running at slightly higher than normal numbers ill chock that to the liquid cooling and call it a day but my task manger is still reporting 6.02 ghz does anyone know how to remedy that?

thanks RobCrezz that seems to be the most plausible answer!! bwrlane thanks for the info i was worried my processor could have had a failure but it run normal and you put my mind at rest and thanks to the rest all very good valuable information
