Why is my ping so shaky and my connection so poor?

Hey all,
I have Optimum Ultra 50 wifi, and i've been having a lot of problems with it. I usually am playing League of Legends or Battlefield 4 on my computer, and the ping fluctuates a ton. If im playing LoL and there isn't anyone else in the house, my ping hangs in at around 82. This is totally fine and perfectly playable as im on the East Coast, this ping is expected. If one other device on my wifi tried to watch a youtube video or netflix or something, my ping will spike in between 500-4000 ping and stay there. Often hanging around the 900 mark. It's totally unplayable and im not sure why its happening. I have the smart router that optimum gave us, but right now im using a Linksys e3200 router. I forwarded the LoL ports and even put QoS priority on my computer. I need help!! how can i keep my ping low while others are on the wifi? I figured that with the 50/50 mb/s speeds that are promised, I would be able to play games while others are streaming things. Wired connection is not an option. Any way to fix this wirelessly?
Thanks!
Matt

Firstly, is it possible to connect via eterernet? Even if not as a permanent solution I would recommend trying it just do diagnose.
Secondly, what is your internet speed like? I don't know about US, but in England we can use this site for a truly accurate test (it's what are our internet engineers use) : http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/
Also, just in case wirless N is not availible type this into cmd window: "netsh wlan show interface" and see if Radio type says: "802.11n"

Agreed, if you can use a wired connection then it will almost always reduce latency. If you wire it, your router has no issues and your PC is reasonably fast and you still see issues then it may actually be something further up, check to see if others have this issue or go to cmd and type: "ping www.google.com" to see how you ping non-game servers or you could "tracert www.google.com" to see the full packet route.

If your router is the issue, it even be as simple as it overheating and giving you huge packet loss, as more resent data=higher latency. Let us know how you get on.

The Speed test said that I am getting around 5 mbps down and 3.75 mbps up. A latency of 81 ping. My radio type used to be n, but i changed it to b to see if it would make a difference because on n, i still had the same issued. Ethernet is not an option for me because its in another room where my parents are. I'm 17 and unable to convince them to put the modem and router into my own room 🙁

Ok, n may give you a slightly faster speed but if b is more stable keep it. I suggest that you try ethernet just once to see if it makes a difference and if it does then that helps sort out the issue. If not, see if router does get hot while under load because I've heard of there being overheating issues on some UK B.T hubs which ruins stability and speed. Hope this helps.
