So my monitor is kind of old and only uses a vga cord. So the other day I bought a vga to hdmi converter to plug into my graphics card. It won't display anything on the screen, but if I plug my hdmi tv into the graphics card it will work. Please help.

What card? Those adapters need a "powered HDMI" port. Not all ports supply enough power. I had a HDMI switch, that if my computer was on, it was enough to power the switch, but my cable box and my WD live box couldn't power it, so I had to leave my PC on all the time to use the switchbox.

I have no clue why that sent 3 times 😀

A DVI-to-VGA adapter won't work if both DVI ports are DL-DVI-D (i.e. Dual-Link DVI Digital) as the MSI R9 290 4GD5 has. There's no analog video signal available to pass through.

VGA is considered to be an end-of-life technology so many graphics card makers don't bother supporting it anymore by omitting any provision of analog video signals via DVI-I.
