Why isn't my GTX 1080 being detected in my new pc?

Recently I purchased new parts to upgrade my computer.
My specs now are:
- MSI GTX 1080 X gaming card
- ASUS ROG strix Z270F gaming motherboard
- 8GB DDR4 2133 RAM
- 240GB ssd
-1 TB hdd
- i5 6600 3.30mhz
-500 watt psu (antec)
-Wifi adapter
I built the computer and everything is working fine but when i go into windows and try to open NVIDIA or Geforce experience it says the it cant detect a graphics card. (Windows is installed on ssd) So overall i can turn on my computer and windows will open with no problems at all but the system can't seem to detect the graphics card. (Btw all the LEDs on the graphics card turn on but it still cant be detected) The gc has a 6 and 8 pin power connector- do i have to plug in both of those?Because at the moment I only have the 6 pin plugged in. The only other solution would be if I had to do something in the bios, install new drivers (if so can you please link drivers that would work) or purchase a psu with a 6 and 8 pin power connector. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

You need to plug in both, yes. Are you sure your psu doesn't have both? It can be a 6+2 and a 6 pin.

Then click "Start Search", and then you can choose any of the options it has given you.
