Why isn't the microphone in my headphones working?

Hey,

I have bought some headphones with a built-in-mic recently. The headphones and mic work perfectly on my iPhone 5s, but when i plugged them into a pc that I've recently built, only the headphones work. I plugged the headphones into the headphone jack on my computer, but I assumed that the mic would still work. On my previous computer, if I plugged the headphones into the pc, the mic would work as well. The only solution that I have found it to plug 2 sets of headphones into the mic and audio jack respectively which is VERY annoying to do

What model of headphones? They usually come with an adapter that splits the single combo plug into separate headphone and microphone plugs.

you headphones have a 4 pins prong made to work with iphone and pc use 3 pins prong you you need a cable splitter from 4 prong to 2 of 3 pins to pc for mic and headphones .

Was your previous PC a laptop? They commonly come with the combo port in order to save space. Desktops sometimes have the combo port, and sometimes have separate ports. It just depends on the case manufacturer.

It was a pc. Is there any drivers I forgot to download for this pc?
