I was going to buy new gpu. Then i googled it. What i got from VRAM after reading many articles, was; "you need more VRAM for 1080p to up".
Then i said, mine is 768p, so i dont need more than 2G VRAM. but after buying the 2g gpu, and playing AC Syndicate. I see more texture require more VRAM. ..HATE ALL ARTILES...

Solution
Higher resolution textures take up more space in VRAM, the amount of space that a texture requires does not change based on the resolution you're rendering. A lot of newer games are designed for the PS4 and Xbox One which both have 8GB of shared memory. Usually at least half of that 8GB is likely to be allocated to the GPU so the game's textures will be created under the assumption that there will be more than 2GB of memory available to the GPU. This is why some ports will lock out the high texture options if you only have a 2GB card.
A lot of games are becoming VRAM hogs by including really high resolution art assets, and those will suck down lots of VRAM regardless of what resolution you run. If you really want to turn the texture slider up to maximum I don't recommend getting a card with anything less than 4GB today. That said, if you're looking at budget cards like the RX 460 or the soon to be released GTX 1050 you can certainly argue that the extra VRAM might not be all that beneficial as those GPUs are slow enough that you won't be running AAA games at ultra settings at 1080p resolution or higher. Depending on how much of a premium the 4GB version of those cards command, you might be better off saving a little more money to move to the next better GPU rather than spend extra to buy the 4GB version of a weaker card.

I dont play 1080p.
Mine is 720p. And for medium texture AC Syndicate. Need more than 2G VRAM.
as you said, high resulation need more VRAM. But mine is 720p. And why texture need VRAM?

Then whats the matter. Why this article only say. MORE VRAM FOR MORE RESULSTION. they even compare 2G vs 4G, and after benchmark, those havent no differenses. They wrote nothing about texture. Now what i do, buy 4G gpu?
Are these people technology doctors?
MY RESULATION IS ONLY 720P.

Depending on how old the article is that you read, the difference between 2GB and 4GB might not have been an issue back in say 2014. If it's something more current, the only cards being sold now with 2GB are lower end cards that can't run high end games at high resolutions and high settings at an acceptable framerate, so turning up the textures to ultra often isn't advisable anyway with those cards, even if you do buy a version of the card with 4GB.

yes i have 2g but i play high end games at low resolution and low setting and frame is acceptable. take a look

assassins creed syndicate:
1280x720
all options low exept texture medium.
VRAM: 2013/1989

after playong minutes this setting make kernel error nvidia.

i wonder why 720p and low settings is too much for 2g vram?

High VRAM usage should not cause the graphics driver to crash, at worst you'll get stuttering in the game as data has to be swapped between the slower system RAM and the graphics card's memory. You have a bigger issue if you're getting driver crashes. If you want help with that you may want to start another thread about it with your full system specs.

Ho...om ultra.
I'm not a gamer
I just follow assassin's creed & resident evil
Gt740 & low setting is enough for me.
I just asked why 2g vram isnt enough for 720p.
Whatever thank you too.
