Why must I reinstall my nvidia driver after each reboot?

So I asked a question yesterday here about a slow, choppy graphics card. I have narrowed this problem down do my gpu's driver simply needing a reinstall. I don't think it has anything to do with win updates anymore.

Basically, today I started up my computer. Choppy graphics. I reinstall nvidia's latest driver (which it says I already have), and bam, gpu works fine. I then shut down my computer again just for a test. No updates configured or installed at shut down. When I boot up again, same issue, choppiness. Reinstall driver, fine again. Did this like 4 times yesterday.

My solution: Never shut down the computer again. No seriously, anyone had this problem before? I built my pc a week ago, for 3-4 days this didn't happen. But then again I installed more programs after those 3-4 days so possibly this is a malware interference issue? Or some other program I have installed? Im almost positive it has nothing to do with any windows updates but that could still be a possibility. Thanks!

I installed malware bytes and removed some bad files. I also took a pic of my device manager after the driver reinstall, then after boot and the settings look to be identical. Maybe this is a windows update issue I dont know. Or a motherboard issue. I only downloaded half of the drivers for my mobo but thats all that were recommended in neweggs youtube video. The chipset, audio, usb, and nic. Although I didnt see an option for nic so I only downloaded the 3.

Just drives me nuts that for 3 days everything was fine and then now, every boot, I gotta reinstall my gpu driver. I even have the download link on my desktop now to save time. This appears to be a pretty common problem. I have seen tons of threads online about this, but either the solution never comes or it is something random like a cpu lock not being locked all the way in on the mobo. Help me figure this out please

Im not sure why I post here because I alway end up figuring my issue out before someone responds I hope for my sanity that I am not speaking too soon. So basically, the other day I tried to install motioninjoy from some crap website, and like 5 programs were installed. MIJ is to use a ps3 controller on pc games. Well I thought I uninstalled everything, but apparently there were some remnants left over.

Long story short, the fix occured when I uninstalled GPU monitor from my programs, as at first I wasnt sure if this was from nvidia or not (it is not)

I also went to msconfig and turned mobile genie off (which i dont think mattered) and I turned anyprotect off. I think this is the fix. Anyprotect apparently creates a startup registration point each time you boot. So since I had to reinstall drivers each boot, I believe that this was the culprit.

My advice to the many people having this problem, run anti virus, anti malware, clean your system a bit, try different drivers, older ones perhaps, and most importantly download from trusted sites. I found the same software for my controller on cnet. Check your startup settings with msconfig, and remove unneeded programs, just make sure they are for sure unneeded. Do your research.

This not only fixed my GPU issue, but it runs lightning fast, like the first day I built it. I was wondering why everything seemed a bit slower! Hope this helps someone one day. And I hope my problem is permanently fixed.

I have exactly the same problem. I got my pc built and after 3 days it did this. What does uninstalling gpu monitor do? should i do it and what could be causing the same thing (creates startup registration point) as anyprotect, because I don't have it? Getting tired with this issue.

Not sure. Could be many things. Mine ended up being malware. Google: why do I need to keep reinstalling my graphics driver. I saw many answers and this is a common problem. Each answer varies. I noticed one solution was Asus Game Device ? No idea what that is, I guess a program of some sort? Well the user had to uninstall that and then they had no problems with GPU. Sorry I cant be of more help

I had exactly this same issue. I had clean installed the driver and done all the usual stuff repeatedly. By chance I was reading through my MB manual on an unrelated issue, when I realised how stupid I'd been - I'd installed the grpahics card in the x4 slot rather than the x16 slot. I got exactly the same symptoms as you; I can only assume that Win installs a driver for the different slot when it restarts, overwriting the one you have to install.
