why to upgrade to ddr4 ?

for gaming purpose,
will DDR3 limit the quality of future gaming ?

No, the use of DDR3 will NOT limit gaming performance anytime in the near future. DDR4 has not even been released yet and will initially become available with the X99 chipset (a.k.a. Haswell-E) by end of 2 Qtr this year. Rumors are being passed on tech websites that Haswell-E might be released a bit late (3rd Qtr) due to non-availability of DDR4 modules. A new X99 motherboard isn't going to be usable without the correct memory to use with it. Bottom line, don't sweat it. DDR3 has at least another two years of life left before being phased out.

so in case if I want to build a long term gaming PC, probably you advice me to wait for x99 and DDR4,

I might recommend you waiting for the X99 chipset, Haswell-E CPUs, and DDR4....but only if the performance justifies the additional cost of early adoption. Initial estimates put Haswell-E systems only ~6-10% more powerful in performance vs. current generation Z87, Z97, X79 based computer systems. Not worth it IMHO if those numbers prove to be correct.

Another issue with DDR4 is that it will NOT be cheap upon initial release and will be further complicated by limited availability. Also remember that with any initial memory standard release, the first-generation DDR4 will not be as fast in frequency (Hz) as it will be a year from the release. These are the same exact issues that proved themselves upon the initial release of DDR2 and DDR3.

Ultimately, the choice and risk of investing into a new-generation computer system is up to you. Early adoption always carries with it a lot of risks as well as some benefits. Good luck in whatever you decide to do!
