Won't the current LGA 1366 chips (Core i7 920-980) beat the new LGA1155 chips anyway?

I'll keep my i920, and upgrade it to 930->950->970 as I see fit (and funds come become available).

Only thing I see myself missing is SATA III and USB 3.0 support via Intel new P67 chipset. (Is this correct?) Still, X58 seems to rock! Better than P55, IMHO.

Or maybe not. I just read that the Asus mobo coming out use a NEC controller for USB 3.0. No mention of SATA III.

So I won't be missing anything! But I'll wait until Intel comes out with a chipset supporting both (SATA 3 and USB 3) until I move in that direction.

[citation][nom]CptTripps[/nom]I would assume not everyone is running something as new as a x58 or P55. For upgraders this is a perfect time. For folks already running current tech there is no real reason to upgrade unless you need the best of the best. Video on chip.. it will sell well via Dell etc..[/citation]

Bingo. The last single-generation upgrade that was worth it for those who already had the latest was Pentium D->Core 2 from Intel and Phenom->Phenom II from AMD (and in both cases, the previous chips were pretty bad). For people like me still running a Pentium D, these are brilliant.

I love reading the comments on here- enthusiasts acting as though the entire PC market is (and should) be targeting them specifically.

These chips are not meant for overclockers and gamers. They are meant for the Facebook+email+Office set. The people who don't want or need discrete graphics and who only upgrade computers in 4 - 6 years or longer (once something expensive breaks).

I didnt care for some of the Pentiums myself, I've taken to 4 the most myself. But i got a cutoff series of release though, thats seemed to work well. In still interested in later steup-versions myself. Or the D version. Multi-core seems interesting but still. Given that Tri-Core was the only thing of interest i think they went for the actually Tri-Core designs most the time, instead just quad with lack of one. Rather Pentium D is any good i dont know. I dont know if they kept with the cutoff die sizes or not. But given of course though newer add-ins with CPUS might bring back single proc, or continue to highlight multi-proc.

Sandy Bridge is not an upgrade over x58 quad core like i920 which overclock to 3.8Ghz with no sweat. Considering that you will get non K version i say Sandy Bridge is the biggest waste of money right now if you already own the current generation of i7. I still do not understand why socket LGA1156 was ever released cause right now you can get better deal with x58 and LGA1366.

For having integrated graphic chip, another rip off and mimic. Users are better with buying dedicated video card, Nvidia and ATI offers amazing price/performance deals. As I said integrated graphic chip in CPU is stupid unless they can pack GTX580 level card in it...i don't think so.

Non K series you can't overclock. What we used to call FSB in early days is locked around 100Mhz. So people have to rely on Turbo which is another word for 'joke'. If you get K series you can overclock because multiplier is unlocked but for what price? $1000?

AMD better get their shit together and offer something really good!!!!
Their Fusion thing is also big waste of time for desktops, it makes sense in netbooks and laptops.

Sandy Bridge which is going to be released is not high end, LGA1366 replacement comes in later and it wont have integrated graphics which tells you that is dumb :)

Here is a speel of mine:

Intel's new Sandy Bridge Microarchitecture is part of the 'Tick-Tock' principle. This is the next 'tick' on the market. the next 'tock' will be Ivy bridge and it will feature 22 nm transistors. SB features an integrated GPU design for basic GUI composition of the OS.What I believe Intel is doing is decreasing cost of the unit itsel for HP an dDell and for users who don't want to shell out 100+ dollars for a decent basic use GPU.

To me, this whole Integration thing will get out of hand. I would like to see the SB Model against the AMD APU chip.

BTW, the GPU is suppose to turn itself off whn a discrete GPU card is inserted and recognized for operation.

[citation][nom]kansur0[/nom]Before you get too excited about this new processor...do your research on the "remote kill switch" which is included as a "security feature" in these processors. The question is...how do you turn off the processor? and who has access to the big red button. Read the article on the UK banning certain illicit content and you can see where I am going with this. If they don't like what you are doing with your machine...could they just shut you off remotely?[/citation]
[citation][nom]dalta centauri[/nom]It's supposed to be a personal kill switch in the case of a stolen laptop (apparently desktops as well.)Saying that, we could have an update where they decide to tell people that their cutting down on illegal activity and will warn you before shutting you down remotely. This could be a problem, so I don't see them doing this though.[/citation]
[citation][nom]kelemvor4[/nom]It requires a separate transceiver to work remotely as advertised since that feature isn't integrated into the chip. Unless you buy a system with one of those, you only have to worry about the viruses that will probably now be able to physically "damage" your hardware.[/citation]
As far as I know, this feature is only in enterprise chips/chipsets, so desktop users don't have anything to worry about. They already have such things anyway.

[citation][nom]kartu[/nom]Don't forget to kiss overclocking goodby, before buying these CPUs, as majority of them has killed any kind of overclocking.[/citation]
You guys really need to do your homework before going on a rant from information you just read from a post above your own. The K series can indeed be overclocked and have been reported to easily clock to 4.5ghz on air. Now stfu you cry babies!
