hdd is empty (windows/explorer hides empty drives by default)
hdd is not initalized or not assigned a drive letter (run diskmgmt.msc, rt click on drive and initialize or assign it a letter)
hdd not detected in bios (check cables)
Easy solution:
Go into disk management and you will see the HDD (it will say unallocated space).
Next, simply right click and format the disk (NTFS is recommended).

Great, I've found disk management and i see the hdd. It says Unallocated and it is called "Disk 0". How do i initialize it and assign a letter?

Go into disk management and you will see the HDD (it will say unallocated space).
Next, simply right click and format the disk (NTFS is recommended).
It only shows up on the bottom, not at the top where it has the volume, layout, type, file system, status, etc..
When I right click the bottom it only says convert to dynamic disk, convert to GPT disk, and properties.
Do you know what to do here?
