Why won't my PC read PS1 disc

I got a PlayStation 1 emulator, inserted a PS1 CD-ROM and got an error when I checked to see if the disc read. The game in question is Mega Man X6 (know it was a bad game but yeah)

Here is what my laptop has:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
AMD A4-3300M
4.00GB DDR3 @ 674MHz (9-6-5-15)
Hewlett-Packard 169B (Socket FS1)
Generic PnP Monitor (1366x768@60Hz)
512MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 6480G (HP)
466GB Seagate ST950032 5AS SATA Disk Device (SATA)
hp CDDVDW TS-L633R SATA CdRom Device
IDT High Definition Audio CODEC

The PS1 CD-ROM is formatted with a proprietary format that your PC can't read. See here for more info:

Ok, thanks. Then I guess the "Load CD-ROM" button on my emulator has no purpose.

Which emulator are you trying to use? Here is a link to one that is highly regarded:

Did some digging and you need to configure the emulator to use your optical drive. Have you tried that yet?
