Anand had a neat article about how cheap wifi connectivity is helping grow the smart-home device market as users no longer have to fear about proprietary connectivity standards, so it is not only internet devices, but everything from lightbulbs to toaster ovens... maybe even the kitchen sink.

I still prefer ethernet over wireless if given the choice tho.

You can ship a 100 billion devices, doesn't mean that they will sell or are being used as intended.

It's all guess work as it currently stands.

Still, Wi-Fi is a nice connectivity option for laptops and other small devices that you might use on the go.
